1. Design of and Research on Offshore Construction Technology and Equipment
In the sector concerning the design of and research on offshore construction technology and equipment, the Institute has developed the first large working ship in our Country, i.e., a dike soft foundation layer, named Yangtse Estuary No.1. Following this ship, ¡°Yangtse Estuary No.2¡±, ¡°Yangtse Estuary No.3¡±, ¡°Changzhuan No.3¡± and ¡°Jiaotong Jianshe No.4¡±, all being dike soft foundation layer or soft foundation laying / sandbag dumping dual-function working ship, have also been designed. This ship type and its working manner were extensively appreciated in the national wide. Based on the development of these ships, the project ¡°A Research on Design of Working ship¡ªDike Soft Foundation Layer¡± was awarded the Second Prize of Science And Technology Advancement by Shanghai Municipality.
In April 2005, the ship ¡°Hangjiao No. 2001¡±, a large fully hydraulic cutter-suction dredger which the Institute designed for Shanghai Bureau of Navigation Channel, was successfully put into use in Yangtse River, announcing that the Institute acquired the ability to design large cutter-suction dredgers. Afterwards, the Institute took on the design of more than 50 cutter-suction dredgers for various owners.
2. Research and Design of Platforms for Ocean Oil/Gas Exploitation
In the sector of the research and design of platforms for ocean oil/gas exploitation, the Institute has conducted research, development and design for many years in association with various practical projects and concerning many types of platforms such as drilling platform, bottom-supporting living power-station platform, assembled shallow water drilling platform, floating production system and semisubmersible drilling platform. Thus, the theory of platform design was developed, enriched experience was accumulated, and, contributions to the shallow-sea oil exploration and exploitation was made. Especially, the walkable bottom-supporting platform for extreme shallow-sea, named ¡°Victory No. 2¡±, which was developed in association with Victory Oilfield, was appraised as one of the top ten National-wide Science And Technology Achievement, and, awarded the First Prize of Science And Technology Advancement, Gold Prize of World¡¯s Fair and the Second Prize of National-wide Invention by the Ministry of Oil in 1992.
3. Seaborne Self-elevation Working Platform
In order to figure out the construction of guiding dikes at the Yangtse Estuary for the maintenance of the deepwater navigation channel, the first self-elevation working platform in our Country for stone dumping and leveling, named ¡°Hang Gong Ping No.1¡±, was designed in the Institute¡¯s charge. After being put into use, its economic benefits and work efficiency were proved to be excellent and were highly appraised by the Corporation of Yangtse Estuary Channel.
At present, the Institute is engaged in the development of a self-elevation platform for detritus bedding laying which will be built for the construction of Hong Kong¡ªZhuhai¡ªMacao bridges.
4. Ship Design and New Ship Type Development
In the aspect of ship design and new ship type development, the Institute has developed various ship types with the efforts over some decades. Ships which were built and are in using are as follows: 10,000 dwt class shallow draft collier, 1,500 berth catamaran passenger ship, 5,000 dwt class sea-going dry cargo ship, Qiantangjiang 1,000 dwt class river-sea through transportation cargo ship, Heilongjiang 1,500 dwt class river-sea through transportation cargo ship, 1,500 dwt class costal cargo ship, 100 TEU container ship, 300 berth inland water catamaran, 200 berth island-hopping ferry, Huangpujiang 40 berth luxury yacht, 35 m shallow-sea high speed commuter boat, single-engine joggled twin-propeller tug, car ferry, crane ship, 2,000 m3 self-propelled split-hull mud ship, and etc., totaling more than 50 ships. Besides, researches were also conducted on other ship types, such as large container ship, large ro-ro ship, 238,000 dwt tanker, 75,000 dwt Panamax twin-shell bulk carrier, 15,000 dwt single-engine joggled twin-propeller shallow draft tanker, small waterline area boat, multiple-hull high speed boat, and so on. ¡°Research on the Ship Type of Shallow-draft and Extra-shallow-draft Carrier¡± which the Institute undertook awarded the Second Prize of Science And Technology Advancement by China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
5. Others
In the area of advanced manufacturing technique, the Institute persists in uniting shipyards and research institutes with the University, and has just accomplished the important State Technique Innovation project, ¡°Research on Integrated Ship Manufacturing Technique¡±. The Institute also devoted itself to other projects such as ¡°the Development of a Computer System of Applying Line-heating-and-quenching in Steel-Plate Bending¡±, ¡°the Advanced Shipbuilding Mode and System Simulation¡± and ¡°the Application of Group Technology in Shipbuilding¡±, etc. The project ¡°Ship End Launching without Fore Poppet¡±, which was accomplished in association with Hudong Shipyard, was awarded the First Prize of State Science And Technology Advancement, and the project ¡°Development of a Computer System of Applying Line-heating-and-quenching in Steel-Plate Bending¡± was awarded the third Prize of Science And Technology Advancement by China Shipbuilding Industry Group.
In the facet of water transportation system analysis, the Institute did a lot of work such as ¡°a Research on Seaborne Bulk Cargo (Ore, Bulk Cement, Grain, etc.) and Its Ship Type¡±, ¡°a Research on the Transportation of Imported Phosphoric Acid and Its Ship Type¡±, ¡°a Research on the Transportation of Bulk Cement and Its Ship Type¡±, and ¡°a Research on Container Transportation on the Middle-and-Lower Reaches of Yangtse and Its Ship Type¡±, and so on, that all offered a solid base for the decision-making by related department. Among which the ¡°Research on Container Transportation on the Middle-and-Lower Reaches of Yangtse and Its Ship Type¡± was awarded the Third Prize of Science And Technology Advancement by China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
In addition, The Institute made deep investigations and tests on buried piping tunnel, seabed cable laying and seabed pipeline laying. Researches were also conducted on the leveling of sea-bottom bedding and on large waste piping transportation and pipeline laying
