SJTU Celebrates Prof. Fan Xuji¡¯s 100th Birthday
January 5, 2013 marked the 100th birthday of SJTU former President, famous Aeronautics Educator and Dynamicist, Fan Xuji (H.T.Fan). SJTU held simple and warm celebration for him, conveying congratulations and highly respects to Prof. Fan, who is still working in the frontline of education and scientific research.
Yan Junqi, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Chairman of China Association for Promoting Democracy, and leaders from many others fields all sent enthusiastic congratulatory letters to Prof. Fan.
Yang Wei, President of Zhejiang University; Zhu Di, President of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA); Hu Haiyan, President of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT); Luo Xiao, Secretary of Party Committee of Department of Second System Design, Second Academy of China Aerospace (CASIC); Li Hongming, Deputy Director of Shanghai Association for Science and Technology; Xu Xiwu, Vice President of NUAA; Meng Guang, Vice Dean of the Eighth Research Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; Jing Rui, former Vice-President and the Vice Secretary of Party Committee of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT); representatives from universities like HIT, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU); representatives of Chinese overseas students (Shi Hang Sheng) who went abroad using the first batch of World Bank Loan; Fan Xuji's relatives and friends attended the celebration.

Ma Dexiu and Zhang Jie, on behalf of SJTU faculties and students, presented birthday present and flowers to Prof. Fan Xuji and conveyed congratulations and respects.
Ma Dexiu commended Prof. Fan Xuji, not only for the former President's foundation of China's Aerospace scientific research and education, but also for his 72-year-long dedication in cultivating new generations for his motherland.
'SJTU Fan Xuji Bonus Fund' Donation Ceremony was held during the celebration. President Zhang Jie accepted the donation and issued donation certificates to Huang Yuangeng and Hua Ping, who are the representatives of Shi Hang Sheng.
Su Ming, Executive Deputy Secretary of SJTU Party Committee, hosted the celebration.
On behalf of the SJTU, Lin Zhongqin vividly introduced the Prof. Fan Xuji's achievements and how he pursued knowledge abroad to embrace the dream of constructing a better country especially for the education of Chinese aviation industry.
Yang Wei, President of Zhejiang University and the member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) made an affectionate speech, talking about the fate between three generations of his family with Fan Xuji and Zhejiang University.
Zhu Di, President of NUAA and member of the CAS recalled the Prof. Fan's hard work and expressed that today's NUAA people should be grateful and never forget the distinguished contributions made by him.
Hu Haiyan, Director General of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM), member of the CAS, President of Beijing Institute of Technology illustrated the extraordinary contributions made by Prof. Fan in aspects of China's Aeronautics and Astronautics study and the development of Thermodynamics. Prof. Fan is known as the nation's greatest pioneer of Dynamic Thermal Simulation Research, theory of Thermal Stress and the Engineering Application study.
