Professor Jia Hua Tan Mr. Jia Hua Tan is a Professor, a doctorial tutor and the professor in charge of the Design Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering. Graduated in 1969 and from Department of Naval Architecture of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Tan is at all times engaged in teaching, research and design in the sector of naval architecture and ocean engineering.
His main research area is as follows: research and development of new ship types, research and development of offshore construction technology and equipment, research on advanced ship manufacturing technique, and so on. |
Deputy Ru Hong Jiang Dr. Ru Hong Jiang is an associated professor and an assistant in charge of daily work of the Institute. He is mainly engaged in the research and development of new type ship and ocean engineering equipment, as well as ship structural design.
Dr. Jiang took part in several designs of working ship for soft foundation laying in 1999. From 2000 to 2002, he participated in many funded projects such as ¡°Ship Integrated Manufacturing¡ªDesign and Manufacturing Technique¡±, ¡°Network Programming of Shipbuilding Process¡±, ¡°Research on the Method of Modularized Breakdown of Navy Vessels or Merchant Ships and Their Virtual Manufacturing Technique¡±, etc., as well as Shanghai Municipal Economy Council granted project ¡°Research on Modern Shipbuilding Mode and System Simulation¡±. From 2002 to 2004, he participated in structural design of several split-hopper barges. In this period (2003) he was also in charge of structural design for the following ships: 7,500 dwt Class Panamax Twin-shell Bulk Carrier, Water Environment Experiment Ship and 82 m Self-propelled Deck-cargo Barge. In 2007, he joined the project ¡°Conversion Design of a 10,000 m3 Drag-suction Dredger¡± and responsible for hull structural design. In 2009, he took part in the research and design of ¡°Deepwater Detritus Bedding laying Platform¡±, and likewise was responsible for the design of hull structures. In total more than 50 Large Cutter-suction Dredger have been designed since 2004, and Dr. Jiang has taken part in or mainly been in charge of structural design and trolley system development. And since 2006 he has been joining the development team for the Special Key Project ¡°Research and Developing of a Digitized Intelligent Ship Design System¡±, which is granted by State Ministry of Education. |
Associate Professor Ya Dong Liu Dr. Ya Dong Liou is an associate professor, mostly engaged in the research and analysis of hydrodynamic behaviour of ships and offshore structures.
During the period of being a post-doctor, Dr. Liou was mainly engaged in theoretical calculation of hydrodynamic behaviour and model test research of a ¡°Twin-hull Small Waterline Area Hybrid Boat¡±. Later on she was all along devoted herself to the calculations for the performances of ocean working ships. She participated in the scheme design of a ship used for Wind-electricity Station Installation and responsible for hydrodynamic performance calculation and analysis, and was in charge of the programming of model test scheme. She is currently a vice-president of the board of directors of magazine ¡°Ship Engineering¡±. |
Associate Professor Li Juan Xia Dr. Li Juan Xia is an associate professor, mostly engaged in the research and development of static and dynamic mechanics of ships and offshore structures, as well as in the design optimization of the structures. She is also responsible for ship structural design.
In regard to the research of design optimization of engineering structures, Dr. Xia presided the Youth Science Fund project ¡°Research on Ship Structure Dynamics Optimization Design¡± (50909060), which was granted from State Natural Science Fund, concerning many research facets of a large complex engineering structure such as Optimized modeling, solution-seeking strategy, structural dynamic characteristics and dynamic response optimization design, and structure topology optimization, etc. In the respects of ¡°Digitized Intelligent Ship Structural Design and Analysis¡±, she joined the development team for the Special Key Project ¡°Digitized Intelligent Ship Design System¡±, which was granted by State Ministries of Education and Finance, aiming at some bottle-neck problems in structural design, which puzzled the shipbuilding industry of the Country, carried out interrelated research and development. In the aspect of research on structural design, analysis and optimization for large ocean construction equipment, she participated in the design of several dozen cutter-suction dredgers, responsible for hull structural design and optimization analysis, i.e., based on the special structure pattern and working loads, conducted systematic analysis and research. Other projects she participated are as follows: key technique research of a ¡°7,500 t Lift Crane Ship for Ocean Industry Furnishment¡± which was an item of ¡°National Science And Technology Supporting Programme¡±, design of a semisubmersible conversion for the demonstration of ¡°100MW Wind-electricity Station near East Sea Bridge¡± and design of a 6,000 dwt deck-cargo barge, design and research on ¡°Hang Gong Ping No.1¡± which was a self-elevation working platform for stone dumping and leveling, and design of a self-elevation platform for detritus bedding laying which will be built for the construction of Hong Kong¡ªZhuhai¡ªMacao bridges, etc. All of the research work of platform structure analysis and optimization were conducted.

Lecturer Long Yu Mr. Long Yu is a doctor and a lecturer, mainly engaged in the research on new technology and equipment used in ship and ocean engineering.
In 2010, imbursed by State Study-abroad Fund Committee, Dr. Yu attended Hamburger University of Technology of Germany, undertook the research on hydrodynamic calculation and optimized design of ducted propellers. He is currently presiding a project, sponsored by Youth Fond from State Natural Science Fund, ¡°Research on Marine Air-chamber Mechanical Performance, Distortion Rule and Roll-contact Process Digital Simulation¡±(51009090).
In 2009, he participated in the project ¡°Research on Lower Cost Foundation Structure for the Construction of Offing Wind-electricity Station and on Engineering Technology for the Construction of Shoal Wind-electricity Station¡±, which was consigned by China Ocean Oil New Energy Sources Investment Co. Ltd. In 2008, he accomplished the project ¡°Propulsion Device Alteration of a Large Drag-suction Dredger¡±. In 2006, he took part in a project, consigned by Science Affairs Committee of National Defence, ¡°a Research concerning Hatchcovers on board Large Container ships¡±, and was in charge of Fatigue Analysis of Typical Hatchcover of a Large Container Ship¡±. In 2005, he completed his doctorial thesis entitled ¡°a Study on Some Issues in the Design of Deepwater Multifunctional Semisubmersible Mooring System¡±, in which optimization design model of deepwater multicomponent mooring system was established, and, considering nonlinearity affect of the contact between the mooring-line and the seabed, it was ideal to use the design wave in association with finite-element method in analyzing the dynamic response of the mooring-line to the wave.
As soon as he started to work, Dr. Yu took part in design and research on many cutter-suction dredgers, established a three-dimensional model for the steel pile trolley positioning system, completed typical motion analysis of the steel pile trolley positioning system, and conducted finite-element modeling and structure analyzing for the pile lifting mechanism. |
Assistant Researcher Xin Quan Chen Mr. Xin Quan Chen is a Doctor and an assistant researcher, mostly engaged in the research and development of new type ships and offshore engineering equipment.
During the period of pursuing a doctor degree, Mr. Chen accomplished his doctorial thesis ¡°a Research on Some Key Issues in Preliminary Design of a Deep-sea Semisubmersible¡±, launched a detailed study on the new generation semisubmersibles capable of working beyond 1,500 m depth of the waters; the facets he researched were as follows: type selection of deep-sea submersibles, optimized tentative design, theoretical calculation of hydrodynamics and model testing, prediction of motion in long and short terms, preliminary design of the mooring system, time-domain analysis of mooring system and platform coupling, etc. From December 2007 to present, the projects he participated were as follows: ¡°Research and Analysis of the Mooring System on Large FPSO¡±, which was a subordinate item of ¡°Research and Development of Large Floating Production Storage Oil-tanker (FPSO)¡± granted by Shanghai Municipal Economy Council, and special project research ¡°Motion Performance Analysis of Shallow Draft Ultra-large FPSO¡±; ¡°Research and Development of an Installation and Maintenance Device for Offing Wind-electricity Generator Set¡± which is a subordinate item of the programme ¡°Development and Demonstration of Large Power Offing Wind-electricity Station¡±, the late programme was under ¡°National Science And Technology Supporting Programme¡±; ¡°Research and Analysis of a 7,500 t Lift Crane Ship Hull and Its Key Technique¡± which was a subordinate item of ¡°Research and Development of the Key Technique of a 7,500 t Lift Crane Ship for Ocean Industry Furnishment¡±, which was also an item of ¡°National Science And Technology Supporting Programme¡± under the ¡°11th Five-year Plan¡± of the Country; ¡°Research on Seakeeping of Large Crane Ship¡± which was a self-determined research subject of State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering. |
Assistant Researcher Jin Hong Ding Mr. Jin Hong Ding is a Doctor and an assistant researcher, mainly engaged in the research and development of new type ships and offshore engineering equipment.
In 2007, Dr. Ding participated in ¡°Research and Development of an Installation and Maintenance Device for Offing Wind-electricity Generator Set¡± which is a subordinate item of the programme ¡°Development and Demonstration of the Large Power Offing Wind-electricity Station¡±, and that programme was a key project of ¡°National Science And Technology Supporting Programme¡± under the ¡°11th Five-year Plan¡±.
During the period of studying for a Doctor degree, the subjects he researched were as follows: ¡°Research on the Issue about Evaluation of Environment Loads in the Design of Offshore Structures¡±; ¡°Research and Test on Wind-wave-current Effected Pile Load-bearing Characteristics of an Installation Ship used in Offing Wind-electricity Generator Group Setting¡±; ¡°Structural Design and Strength Check of Pile Legs on an Installation Ship used in Offing Wind-electricity Generator Group Setting¡±; ¡°Digital Simulation of Slamming Characteristics while Three Dimensional Structure Being on Still Water or Regular Waves¡±; ¡°Research on the Current Damping Device Protecting Steel-tube Pile on an Ocean Pile Positioned Structur¡±. |
Assistant Researcher Yong Jun Feng Mr. Yong Jun Feng is a Master of Science and an assistant researcher, mostly engaged in the research and development of equipment for new type ships and offshore Structures.
During the period of graduate study, Mr. Feng completed his Master degree thesis ¡°Design and Research on Hydrodynamic Performance Calculation and Experiment of a Omnidirectional Thruster¡±, and conducted a primary structure design and the experiment. Since he began to work, the projects he successively participated or presided were as follows: 3,000 dwt self-unloading ship; 500 TEU container ship; 1,100 TEU container ship; 3,000 dwt tanker; large barge; Yantai-Dalian train ferry; cutter-suction dredger; drag-suction dredger; and so on, totaling more than 60 ships. The design work he did included general arrangement, outfit and special equipment. The design work and research he recently undertook were: a self-elevation platform for detritus bedding laying applied in Hong Kong¡ªZhuhai¡ªMacao bridges construction (China Communications Group No.4 Navigation Affairs Engineering Bureau) and an installation ship for East Sea Bridge Wind-electricity Station construction, mainly he was involved in outfit design. |
Engineer Yong Sheng Zhao Mr. Yong Sheng Zhao is a Master of Science and an engineer, mostly engaged in the research and development of equipment on board new type ships and offshore structures.
In 2006, Mr. Zhao took part in the project concerning ¡°Research on Hatchcovers of a Large Container Ship¡±, which was consigned by Science Affairs Committee of National Defense, and was responsible for establishing virtual specimens for several types of hatchcover such as multi-pieces folding hatchcover, side-sliding hatchcover and lift-off hatchcover, etc., completed the test and simulation using MSC. Adams software, and composed his Master degree thesis ¡°Dynamics Simulation of 6-pieces Folding Hatchcover Mechanism on Board a Multipurpose Cargo Ship¡±. In 2007, he joined the development team for the project ¡°Digitized Ship Design System¡±, which was a special key item granted by State Ministries of Education and Finance, and was in charge of structural strength analysis and multi-body dynamics analysis of special marine outfit equipment. In 2009, he participated in the project ¡°Research on Lower Cost for Foundation Structure Construction of Offing Wind-electricity station and Engineering Technology in the Construction of Offing Wind-electricity station¡±, which was consigned by China Ocean Oil New Energy Sources Investment Co. Ltd. Since 2007 he began to take part in the design of large cutter-suction dredger, undertook or was in charge of the following work: strength analysis of stock, design of mooring system, analysis of local strength, etc. |
Engineer Chao Huang Mr. Chao Huang is a Bachelor and an engineer, mainly engaged in marine engineering design for ships and offshore structures.
Since beginning to work, Mr. Huang successively took part in or was in charge of marine engineering design work for the ships listed below: kiloton class maritime patrol ship, XX navy boat, YY navy ship, custom smuggle suppressing vessel, Victory Oilfield traffic boat, end-pushed container ship, soft-foundation laying working ship, crane ship, offing wind-electricity generator-set installation ship, cutter-suction dredger, drag-suction dredger, etc., totaling more than 60 ships. Recently he undertook the research and design of marine engineering for the following items: ¡°7,500 dwt Crane Ship for Ocean Industry Furnishment¡±(863 supported research project); ¡°Hong Kong¡ªZhuhai¡ªMacao Bridges Construction Used Deepwater Self-elevation Platform for Detritus Bedding Laying (China Communications Group No.4 Navigation Affairs Engineering Bureau); ¡°Feasibility Study of Small Diesel Refining Device Applied on a FPSO¡±(China Ocean Oil Corporation); etc. |
Senior Engineer Guo An Zhang Mr. Guo An Zhang is a senior engineer, graduated in 1969 from Department of Electromotor Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. For a very long time he has been engaged in the design and development of marine electro-system. He successively participated or presided electro-system design and development of various types of ships, for both domestic and overseas owners, including: bulk carrier, container ship, tanker, chemical product carrier, warship, navy auxiliary ship, patrol boat, dredger, working ships and others, awarded many honors and prizes from Shanghai Municipality, China State Shipbuilding Corporation and Science and Technology Committee of National Defence, etc. |
Engineer Feng Xu Mr. Feng Xu is a Bachelor and an engineer, mainly engaged in design and research on marine engineering of ship and offshore structure.
From July 2004 to present, Mr. Xu was first in a shipyard and took part in ship repairing and conversion, the ships being bulk carrier, tanker, container ship, cement carrier, etc., more than 10 ship in total. Later he undertook adjusting and testing on machinery on board two 93 m platform tenders built for a British Oil Company. When he was in Baoji Company, Mr. Xu fulfilled the design of machinery space three-dimensional piping system for Type DSS21 Deepwater Semisubmersible Drilling Platform tailored for Danmark Masky Co. While in Shext Maritime Engineering Group, he participated in piping system design of a jack-up drilling platform for Dubai Drydock World. And as a principal of a project, he completed the design of machinery space piping system and the coordination with the shipyard for a Buoy Type Oil-treatment Platform for Norway Sevan Marine. Other projects he accomplished were the alteration of main deck piping and partial oil-treatment module piping on board a FPSO, and the alteration of superstructure piping of a platform service ship. And since he joined the Institute, Mr. Xu has taken part in or been in charge of marine engineering design for more than10 cutter-suction dredgers of several types. |
Engineer Xiao Li Gu Mr. Xiao Li Gu is a Bachelor and an engineer, mostly engaged in the research and development of electro-driven systems of ship and offshore structure equipment.
From September 2004 to April 2007, Mr. Gu took part in the production design of electro engineering for two ships: ¡°Type XX Missile Speed Boat¡± and ¡°183 Wave-piercing Twin-hull Traffic Boat¡±.
From April 2007 to present, he participated in the design of large cutter-suction dredgers, mainly being responsible for system design and analysis calculation of frequency-converted electro-driving for working devices and collocation analysis of special power station. Among those cutter-suction dredgers, there were ten main ones that employed frequency-converted electro-driving, and one of the ten was fitted with electro thruster, thus becoming a self-propelled cutter-suction dredger. His two technical papers were published. |
